Our Marrakech day trip from Agadir makes it accessible without you having to change hotels, hire a car, or navigate the city alone.

We depart early so you arrive with the morning coolness still in the air, spend the best part of the day in the Medina with a licensed local guide, and return to Agadir in the evening with stories to tell. It is a long day — around 14 hours door to door — and it is worth every minute. This is consistently one of our most popular day trips from Agadir and it regularly sells out in summer. 🗺️ Itinerary — what happens on the day

7:20 AM — Hotel pick-up
Your driver collects you from your hotel. The group assembles and we take the A7 motorway south-east from Agadir toward the Atlas Mountains.

En route — rest stops and mountain scenery
The drive to Marrakech takes approximately 3 hours with at least one scheduled rest stop for the bathroom and refreshments. The route crosses the foothills of the High Atlas and offers views of Morocco that most tourists who fly directly to Marrakech never see. Your guide will provide background on the landscape, the Berber communities, and Marrakech’s history before you arrive.

~11:00 AM — Arrival in Marrakech, meet your local guide
On arrival in Marrakech you will meet your licensed local guide. Under Moroccan law, a licensed guide is required to accompany visitors to historical monuments — your guide knows every corner of the Medina and will bring the history to life in a way that a self-guided visit cannot.

Guided walking tour — Bahia Palace, Koutoubia, Medina
Your guide leads you through the Medina’s main sights. The Bahia Palace is a 19th-century masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship — its courtyards, gardens, and painted ceilings are among the most photographed interiors in the country. From there, you walk to the gardens of the Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakech’s iconic 12th-century minaret visible from almost anywhere in the city. Your guide will explain the history of both buildings and take the best photo positions.

Jemaa el-Fna square and the souks
No visit to Marrakech is complete without time in Jemaa el-Fna — the famous central square that has been a gathering place for traders, storytellers, musicians and snake charmers for a thousand years. From here, your guide takes you into the labyrinthine souks that surround it: the dyers’ souk, the spice market, the leather tanneries, and the narrow lanes where craftsmen still produce goods the same way they did centuries ago.

Free time — explore Marrakech at your own pace
After the guided tour, you have approximately 2 hours of free time. Browse the souks, find a rooftop restaurant for lunch overlooking the Medina, visit the Jardin Majorelle if time allows, or simply sit at a café in Jemaa el-Fna with a fresh orange juice and watch the square fill up. Your guide will give you a meeting point and time before the free period begins.

Afternoon — depart for Agadir
You reconvene with your guide at the agreed meeting point and return to the coach. We depart Marrakech in the mid-afternoon, arriving back at Agadir hotels around 9:00 PM (Taghazout arrivals approximately 10:00 PM).

🎒 What to bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes — you will walk 4–6km on uneven cobblestoned streets
  • Light, modest clothing — covered shoulders and knees are respectful and will significantly reduce attention from vendors in the Medina
  • Cash in Moroccan dirhams — most souk vendors, street food stalls, and smaller restaurants are cash-only; ATMs are available near Jemaa el-Fna
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses — Marrakech is significantly hotter than Agadir, especially in June–August
  • A hat — essential for walking the open sections between monuments
  • A small bag or daypack — leave valuables at your hotel; keep your camera and phone in a front pocket or zipped bag in the souks
  • A light jacket — the coach is air-conditioned and the return journey is in the evening

📝 Notes

  • The guided tour of Marrakech is conducted in English and French; please let us know your preferred language when booking
  • Guests may choose to skip the guided tour and explore Marrakech independently during the free time — let us know in advance and your driver will arrange a meeting point
  • Moroccan law requires a licensed local guide for monument tours in Marrakech — you cannot enter Bahia Palace with a tour group without a licensed guide
  • The tour is available as a private experience for couples, families, and groups — contact us for private pricing and to arrange a personalised itinerary
  • Total tour duration is approximately 14 hours — this is a full and tiring day; we recommend a relaxed evening on your return
  • Marrakech temperatures in July and August regularly reach 38–40°C — significantly hotter than Agadir; dress accordingly and stay hydrated

Tips from our guides — make the most of your day in Marrakech

Marrakech is extraordinary but it can also feel overwhelming if you’re not prepared. A few things our guides always tell guests before the coach door opens:

  • Say yes to nothing in the souks until you’ve looked around. Shopkeepers will invite you in enthusiastically — there is no obligation and a warm smile plus “thank you, maybe later” is all you need.
  • The best lunch spots are not on the main square. Step one street back from Jemaa el-Fna into the Medina and you’ll find local restaurants serving tagine for a fraction of the tourist prices. Ask your guide for a recommendation before free time starts.
  • Your guide sets the pace, but speak up. If you want to spend longer somewhere or skip something, just say so. A good guide adapts.
  • Haggling is expected. In the souks, the first price is a starting point, not the final one. Offering 40–50% of the asking price and meeting in the middle is completely normal. Your guide can help with this if you want support.

Arriving around 11:00am and departing Marrakech in the mid-afternoon gives you approximately 4–5 hours in the city. This is enough time for a guided tour of the Medina, Bahia Palace, Koutoubia gardens and Jemaa el-Fna, plus free time to explore the souks and have lunch.

Is a guide required in Marrakech?

Yes — Moroccan law requires visitors to use a licensed local guide to enter and tour Marrakech’s major historical monuments. Our tour includes a licensed English-speaking guide for the monument visit. Guests who prefer to explore independently during the free time portion are welcome to do so — just let us know in advance.

Is the Marrakech day trip suitable in summer?

Yes, but come prepared for significant heat. Marrakech regularly reaches 38–40°C in July and August — considerably hotter than Agadir. Wear very lightweight, loose, modest clothing; bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. We recommend completing the monument tour in the morning before the peak afternoon heat.

Moroccan dirhams (MAD) are essential for the souks, street food, and smaller restaurants. ATMs are available near Jemaa el-Fna square. We recommend withdrawing cash before entering the Medina.
