Ksar Of Ait Ben Haddou

Ksar Of Ait Ben Haddou

Ksar Of Ait Ben Haddou

This wonderful Ksar Of Ait Ben Haddou is located on the southern slope of the High Atlas, in a set of valleys that are part of the oases of southern Morocco declared a World Heritage Site. It is an area that has many geological and mineral deposits, is inhabited by the descendants of several Berber tribes, and enjoys a great socio-cultural richness due to its palm groves, springs, khettaras, crafts, and mousses.

Leaving Ouarzazate by the road that goes towards Marrakech, we arrive at the upper valley of the Drâa, the Agadir southern, and the arid slope of the Djebel Toubkal.

It is a mountain road dotted with kasbahs that cross the cordillera by the passage of Tizi n’Tichka, at 2260 meters above sea level.

The main attractions are:

Ksar Of Ait Ben Haddou

The Kasbah of Ait-Ben-Haddou

50 km from Ouarzazate, by a deviation of the national road, next to the Ounila River, we find this spectacular kasbah declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Some sequences of the film “Laurence of Arabia” were filmed there.

Despite her undoubted beauty, she is in a state of semi-abandonment. However, it enjoys a good tourist offer, with restaurants and hotels. For example, you can point out the 4-star Hotel Kasbah.

From Aït-Ben-Haddou, the road to Marrakech N-9 goes up the Atlas through the following villages:

Amerzgane, 30 km from the Kasbah Hotel d’Imini.

Tisseldeï, 44km away, with tourist accommodation, Iroha.

Agouim at 67km, from where mountain paths leave to the region of Djebel Siroua (south of Djebel Toubkal) and to the villages of Taliouine and Aoulouz on the road to Taroudant.

The national road continues through the port of Tizzi n’Tichka at 83km and arrives in Marrakech after 160 km of the path.

A very fashionable alternative for lovers of all-terrain vehicles is to cross the Atlas from Aït-Ben-Haddou by going up through the Ounila valley to the Kasbah of Telouet at 50 km and access the port of Tizi n’Tichka after 70 km.

For quite a while, the small road follows the river parallel. Kasbahs are scattered throughout the landscape, such as those of Ameniter or Tamdagh. Some are in ruins. We also cross several villages entirely built of earth and straw.

Quality accommodation can be found in the area, such as in the localities of Asfalou, Tamedakhte, and Taifst.

Agadir with kids

Agadir is the top destination for a beach holiday in Morocco and is very suitable for families with children. This tourist resort has its own airport, offers kilometres of sandy beaches, child-friendly resorts and plenty of fun sights and days out for young and old. Agadir is a modern city with a luxury hotel and European cafes and restaurants, ideal for families who want to enjoy the beauty that Morocco has to offer, but also want to take advantage of the Western comforts during their holiday. Authentic Morocco can be discovered during a trip to the souks, where you can shop for the best souvenirs, or during a camel ride through the desert. Agadir has plenty to offer children and is, therefore, the perfect destination for a sun and beach holiday in Morocco.

In and around Agadir

Beach fun is paramount during a family holiday to Agadir with children. But there are many more great things to see and do, both in the centre of Agadir and beyond in the form of day trips and excursions.

Beaches

Agadir is a real seaside resort and is mainly visited for its wonderful beaches. The most popular beach is Agadir Beach, the largest and most beautiful beach in the city. This fine sandy beach slopes gently into the sea and the waves are not too strong, making it suitable for children. You can always find a nice spot to relax on the kilometre-long beach and it is the perfect place to escape the bustle of the city. For active beach fun, you are in the right place here, you can practice all kinds of cool water sports.

Seafront promenade

Walking along the boulevard is highly recommended and loved by both tourists and locals. On the wide promenade, you can enjoy a wonderful sea breeze, many gardens and a beautiful view of the beach. You can settle down at one of the many restaurants and cafes. Stroll to the harbour at the end of the day or in the evening when everything is lit up. Perfect to end a day at the beach.

La Grande Roue Agadir

To the north of the boulevard is the Ferris wheel of Agadir. A ride in La Grande Roue Agadir promises beautiful views over the beach and the city and is very beautiful in the evening when everything is lit up and also during the sunset.

Surfing in Taghazout

Do you love surfing or do you want to give it a try? Then go to Taghazout, half an hour north of Agadir. This place is the surf spot of Morocco, where you will find perfect waves and surf schools. shaka!

Crocoparc

This crocodile park is one of the best outings for children in Agadir. In this natural park, you can admire some of the most dangerous reptiles in the world, wander in mysterious caves and watch the keepers feed crocodiles. Crocoparc is located a half-hour drive from the centre of Agadir.

Vallee des Oiseaux

Another beastly fun outing is Vallee des Oiseaux or the Valley of the Birds. In this animal park, you can spot many birds such as herons, peacocks and also exotic birds such as colourful parrots. You can also see a number of other animals such as monkeys and llamas. The great thing about this outing is that the entrance is completely free and it is located in the centre of Agadir. There is also a nice playground for small children.

Water Park Atlantica Parc

Do you want cool water fun in the Moroccan sun? Then visit the small, but nice water park Atlantica Parc. The water park is half an hour north of Agadir and features some cool slides such as a space bowl, multilane and tunnel slides. There is also a children’s pool with water play equipment and mini slides. Parents can take a seat on the sunbeds with umbrellas and there is a cafe serving pizzas, pasta, salads and desserts. A fun day out with the kids!

Shopping in the souk

Due to an earthquake in the 1960s, not much remains of the old city of Agadir and therefore Agadir has not an old but a ‘new’ Medina. But that doesn’t make the souk any less fun to visit. Head to Souk El Had d’Agadir for covered streets and alleys dotted with shops, stalls, cafes and studios. You can get the most beautiful souvenirs to take home here, such as pottery, jewellery, spices and leather goods. Here you can test your bargaining and negotiation skills!

camel ride

A camel ride through the desert should not be missed during a holiday in Agadir with children. From the city, you can reach the vast Sahara in no time and there are therefore numerous expeditions to the desert. The excursion can even be booked with an overnight stay, where you sleep under the stars with the Berbers!

Food and drink

In Agadir, you can enjoy traditional Moroccan dishes in plenty of places, such as couscous or a tagine with meat or freshly caught fish. Of course, a cup of mint tea that is served very high should not be missed. Very nice is the Agadir Cooking Class Center, where cooking classes are given for both adults and children. Here you will learn all the tricks of the typical Moroccan cuisine!   Are the kids not a fan of Moroccan cuisine? In Agadir, you will find many restaurants with Western food and also a McDonald’s and KFC on the boulevard. The hotels often serve international cuisine and there are usually several restaurants to choose from.

Agadir Hotels

In Agadir, there are plenty of child-friendly hotels that have often been expanded with many facilities for young holidaymakers. Most hotels are in a prime location near or in the centre and on the beach. ROBINSON Club Agadir . is located directly on Agadir Beach, a true paradise for families. This luxurious five-star all-inclusive resort is ideal for parents who want to enjoy wellness, excellent meals and a beautiful swimming pool while the children are thoroughly entertained in the kids’ clubs. There is ROBY BABY (up to 3 years), ROBY Club (3 to 7 years), ROBY (8 to 12 years) and ROBS (from 13 years) with cool activities for teenagers. The special children’s restaurant is a feast for the little ones and for extra convenience there is a free baby kit available with all the necessities.
