Imagine yourself passing through overwhelmingly beautiful valleys and past red-flat mountains. See yourself going higher and higher into the Atlas Mountains along with your private guide, spending several days together getting to know the sites and sounds of this very special place. Our two day tour will bring you from Marrakech through the Draa valley, across to Ouarzazate and back to Marrakech.
On the first day of our time together, we will depart early in the morning and soon be amongst some of the beauty that Morocco has to offer. The valleys and hills of the the region will stun you, as we travel up above 7400ft (2260m) in your air conditioned 4WD. We soon arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, a ‘fortified city’, or ksar, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. You may soon feel like you’ve been here before, as Ait Ben Haddou has been the backdrop for such films as “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Time Bandits”, “Kundun”, “The Mummy” and many many more. While many families now live in more modern homes, you’ll have the chance to see why this has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Here we stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
The day continues with a drive to Ouarzazate with its Film Studios and famous backdrops. We pass through the inspiring Anti Atlas Mountains (Tizi N Tnifift), as well as Agdz and the Draa valley, which is famous for its palm plantions. It boasts over 11 million Palm Trees in this area — a true site to behold.
Finally, the first day comes to a glorious end when we arrive in Zagora, where we will take a one-and-a-half hour camel ride to watch the sunset over the desert. Tonight we will sleep like the locals in a Berber tent.
Day two finds us freshly refreshed and ready for more. We wake up with the sunrise to enjoy the view over the dunes while riding our camels back to Zagora. The adventure continues as we travel back to Ouarzazate by car where we will visit the Taouirt Kasbah for lunch. You now, of course, understand why Ouarzazate means “Door to the Desert.” After our lunch, we travel back to Marrakech by car, and part ways.
